Symbiotic Relationships
The relationship between the lichen (old man's beard) and the black spruce trees is an example of commensalism that occurs in the taiga biome. The lichen attaches itself onto the branches of the tree for a secure location and access to sunlight. Although the lichen receives many benefits from the tree, they do not do anything that benefits or harms the black spruce trees.
